Energy saving scheme offers a 'tonne' of advice |
A Sevenoaks couple will be making some electrifying savings in the coming months after an energy saving initiative reached a grand milestone recently.
The Prestons of Chipstead in Sevenoaks became the 1,000th household in Kent to take advantage of free Home Energy Survey when they were visited by a Kent Energy Centre (KEC) Home Visitor on 20 August.
The Prestons were given advice on low energy lighting and draught proofing, as well as more general tips on how they could save energy in their home as the Home Energy Survey was completed. The Home Visitor was also able to refer them for free cavity wall insulation as Mr Preston is aged over 70.

Residents of the District can expect to receive some important documents in the coming weeks as voter registration forms are sent to households throughout the area.
The forms are being sent out from Monday 3 September by Sevenoaks District Council.
Details can once more be confirmed online or by using the popular freephone service, either of which saves bringing or sending the forms back to the Council.
A simple help sheet that explains how to use either of these services and answers the most frequently asked questions, is enclosed with the registration form. Cllr Keith Loney, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for electoral issues, says: "There will be Kent County Council and European Parliamentary elections in 2009, so if you don't want to lose your vote, don’t delay in responding to the form, whether by phone, online or by posting the voter registration form back to the Council - only those people whose names are on the register will be able to vote." Households that have not received a form by late September, or have any questions about completing the form can e-mail

Organic veg boxes cheaper than supermarket |
Every little helps: the latest price comparison data from Riverford Organic Vegetables shows that supermarket customers are paying an average of 22% more for their organic vegetables .
The most marked saving is for shoppers who get a large weekly veg box for their family. They will be saving a massive 51% vs the supermarket equivalent. £15.95 vs an average cost of £24.01 from the retailers . And that’s before factoring in Riverford’s free delivery. Riverford believes that its customers appreciate that a weekly veg box is a very economical way of eating, also offering them food they know they can trust.
Sam Garnham, who delivers Riverford boxes in the Sevenoaks area, says “Supermarkets aren’t always the most cost-effective way to shop. Buying locally produced, seasonal veg that hasn’t had to travel far means that you don’t pay for any middle men. And our free delivery means you don’t have to pay for petrol to get to the supermarket.”
