In the 1960s there was a major development of painting that became known as optical art or Op Art. The paintings created optical effects for the spectator. These effects ranged from the subtle, to the disturbing and disorienting. Op painting used a framework of purely geometric forms as the basis for its effects and also drew on colour theory and the physiology and psychology of perception. Leading figures were Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely who was one of the originators of Op art.
In a recent series, local designer and artist Michael Marks explored the potential of digital illustration techniques to revisit some of the original themes. They are available to purchase as stunning framed prints. Please email hello@onlinevine.co.uk or call 01732 760823 for Mark Marks’ contact details.
