With neighbourhood noise the theme of this year’s Noise Action Week, local people are being reminded of the practical steps that they can take to help avoid the problem in the first place.
National Noise Action Week runs from 21 to 25 May and aims to raise awareness of the impact of noise and preventative measures. Sevenoaks District Council is taking this opportunity to highlight noise from the garden such as dog barking, noisy parties, shouting and screaming, alarms and even noise generated by water features.

Wildlife loving residents of the District are being reminded that time is running out for them to be rewarded for their green fingered efforts in their gardens.
The closing date for Sevenoaks District Council’s Gardening for Wildlife award scheme, which encourages residents to ensure their gardens are wildlife-friendly habitats, is 31 May 2007.

Following the District Council elections on Thursday 3 May, the Conservative group won the majority seats on the Council.
The breakdown by party is:
Conservative 41 (+8)
Independent 1 (-2)
Labour 5 (-5)
Liberal Democrat 7 (-1)
The turnout was 37.9%, an increase of 4.1% on last District Council elections in 2003.
The count took place today, (Friday 4 May) at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre.

With work well underway to construct an online guide to accessible venues across Sevenoaks District, local residents are being urged to nominate any building or facility that they feel should be included in the guide.
Sevenoaks District Council has teamed up with DisabledGo, a National Accessibility Project, to produce an online guide to venues that are open to the general public.
Following consultation in March with representatives of disabled groups, DisabledGo drew up a list of venues to be included in the guide.
It is not too late to make suggestions for any additional venues that could be included. To nominate a venue please contact Anna Borthwick, the Partnership Manager for DisabledGo, by calling 01438 842710 or by e-mailing

Throughout May and early June, fully trained DisabledGo researchers will be visiting up to 1,000 venues from goods and service providers to hotels, tourist attractions to nightclubs and pubs to local libraries to establish how accessible they are to people with disabilities.
The completed guide is expected to go live by late summer or autumn 2007.
