Local groups rescue youth theatre finale |

Sevenoaks Community Arts & Theatre, the umbrella organisation formed by 16 local drama and musical societies, has moved fast to save the final performance of The Bardolphs, one of three successful youth theatre programmes run by Kino.
With the STAG theatre closing its doors on Monday night, the final performance by a group of 12-14 year olds, scheduled for Tuesday evening, was at risk of cancellation.
But SCAT moved swiftly to ensure the youngsters were not disappointed, and with the help of Sevenoaks School made alternative arrangements so that the performance could go ahead after all – to the delight of the young performers and their families and friends.
Tamara Wilder, Youth Theatre Director, commented:
“I was so pleased when SCAT came to the rescue. The youth theatre has
been a great success and I will be continuing it at a location to be
identified.”
Charles Hebert, Chairman of SCAT, added:
“We did not want to see the young performers let down, and were happy to step in to the breach.
The STAG has been very busy over the past 2 weeks with Sevenoaks Summer
Festival events, and we understand there are 57 nights of forward
bookings from some 21 groups. So the confidence of hirers and others
was actually building back up, when Kino announced it was closing the
doors.
We are working urgently to come up with a solution to re-open the STAG
complex that we hope will receive the support of Sevenoaks District
Council, owners of the site, so that it can continue to house long-term
a really thriving theatrical and cinema programme, as well as workshops
and community programmes like Tamara’s.”
