The intricacy and skill required to create a piece of work in wrought iron are much admired – and could be yours following a course at Hadlow College. If you are interested in wrought ironwork as a recreational hobby but have never had opportunity to try it, the course could be for you.
It will be equally suitable for anyone who wants to extend their
existing skills. Graham Simpson who organises the courses comments
‘This traditional craft brings to life ideas and creativity, the only
limit is your imagination! The course on offer will see you through
from start to finished product, be it a weather vane, a garden chair or
virtually anything else.’
Blacksmithing and Wrought Ironwork for Beginners will be held on Monday
evenings from 6.30 – 8.30 p.m. Commencing on 22 September, the 10-week
course runs through to 1 December. Early booking is advised as the
number of places on the course is strictly limited. Hadlow College
boasts a NEW FORGE and the course will be led by a tutor who is an
ESTEEMED MECHANICAL ENGINEER and BLACKSMITH.
Open to both ladies and gentlemen, applicants for the course must be a
MINIMUM AGE of 17. Everything for working in the forge is provided,
including protective eye goggles. Students should wear clothing made
from natural fibres (not man-made) and stout shoes.
